Stucco Joint Sealant
Stucco Joint Sealant
Every building in Southern California has a story. Whether or not that story is translated to the exterior look of the building can be affected by the type of exterior finishing that building has. Stucco is an exterior finish that is found all over Los Angeles. It can be finished with a variety of textures and can be painted or colored in order to give the building more character. Like most building materials, stucco needs to be able to stand up against temperature changes, weather, and seismic activity. This can be done by the inclusion of control joints.
In stucco, control joints should be installed at a predetermined interval. Care should be taken to make sure there is no stucco left in the joint when the plaster is applied to the finishing surface and before the stucco has set. Should the joint need to be sealed, the proper sealant needs to be chosen. In order to choose the proper sealant, consideration must be given to movement the joint is expected to undergo in its lifetime. The sealant used may also need to be replaced as a part of proper joint maintenance. This should be done in accordance to the manufacturer’s instructions.
