Stone Restoration
Restoration Solutions for Stone
Dealing with a structure made up of stone can have interesting challenges. Natural occurrences and various weather conditions can contribute to discoloration, cracking, and spalling of stone. Proper maintenance is important for buildings constructed with such materials. However, should the building need help, it is possible to have a professional restore such materials to their original glory.
The stone on the exterior walls of your building may have been put on in one of two ways: either it was put on by hand on site or it was pre-set into a structure and then carried to the construction site to be put on the building. Either way, the stone would have to be anchored properly to the wall and then sealed with joint sealant. The anchor and adhesive helps to keep the stone on the structure, and the sealant allows for the natural movement that stone undergoes during expansion and contraction.
The sealant will have to be changed on a regular basis, and the anchor points checked for signs of damage. Cracking, spalling, and discoloration can be caused by both natural and man-made effects. In either case – for routine maintenance or for restoration – a professional should be called in order to get the job done correctly.
